Diabetes is a very deadly and interminable disease that occurs when our body is not able to convert glucose (sugar) into energy which then finally stores up to dangerous levels in the blood.

The glucose content in the body becomes high because our body fails to function properly. Because there is not an ample production of insulin or the body cells do not respond properly to insulin.

Diabetes can be life-threatening and it can alter your life. It can develop eye problems, damage your kidney, promotes atherosclerosis, heart diseases and stroke, sexual impotence, and hearing impairment when proper care is not taken.

What are the symptoms of diabetes?

  • Experience continuous urination than usual, especially at night.
  • More thirsty and hungry
  • More  tiredness
  • Weight loss
  • No healing of cuts and wounds
  • Blurred vision

Types of  Diabetes

Diabetes categorized into two

Type 1 Diabetes


Afflicts 5-10% of all diabetics. In this type, the body does not produce insulin at all. It is usually innate.



It hits adulthood teenage and is called juvenile diabetes.

Officially called Insulin Dependent Diabetes mellitus (IDDM) because people with this disease will have to take insulin to survive.

However, this type –I can be prevented by taking insulin injections carrying out regular blood tests, and taking a special and proper diet.

Type 2 Diabetes

Type II diabetes is different and more dangerous. It is commonly called as an adult-onset disease because the risk of developing is greater as we grow older fatter and become physically inactive. Officially called non-insulin dependent. and Diabetes mellitus (NIDDM).

Here, the body has lots/large number of insulin, but it cannot function properly and the cells in the body do not react to insulin as it becomes blocked.

When the insulin is unable to perform its duties the cells cannot use all the glucose required, where the cells begin to starve and the glucose piles up in the blood, spills over to urine and the person becomes diabetic.

The problem of type-II is usually because of excessive intake of fats. Excess fats can decrease the no. of insulin receptors, ultimately the glucose in the bloodstream will store up in huge amount,

The moment one is marked to have diabetes, a long list of medicines, and an even longer list of do’s and don’t show up. Many take insulin injections daily that control the sugar level, but don’t’ cure diabetes.

Some even take drugs that seem to help but increases the rate of heart diseases.
Diabetes Treatment
  • Eat more natural fiber-rich food: Eating high-fiber foods can reduce your blood sugar and help you win over this deadly disease. Some of the high fiber foods are apple, pears, carrots, legumes, spinach, beans, whole grains Chia seeds, etc.
  • Avoid fats, oils and grease: All excess fats are a burden on the body,  because it thickens the blood, reduces oxygen transport and slows down circulation.
  • Eat plenty of fresh vegetables, natural plant food, and fresh fruits, because they provide a variety of nutrients and they have a relatively low-calorie count.
  • Avoid refined foods like cakes, candy, and ice-cream because it contributes to obesity.
  • Eat a proper and healthy diet.
  • Walk Daily: 30 minutes of walk daily can help burn down the sugar in your body.
  • Exercise: Regular exercise can stabilize your blood sugar
  • Avoid eating all animal products and watch oily and creamy sauces.
  • Weight loss: Eat a low-calorie diet to lose weight because overweight is one of the major causes of diabetes type II.

A diabetic patient needs to know well about the items of food and the quantity that they should take every day. Like a  normal and healthy person, he should also take a nutritious and balanced diet. The quantity of the diet constituents of fats, proteins, carbohydrates, etc. and the functional distribution of different meals should be maintained well for a healthy life.

Foods and Plants That Are Helpful in Diabetes

1: KARELA: Karela, which is known as bitter gourd and methi plants are the best known used plants for diabetes. Drinking a half cup of karela juice twice a day in the morning and evening helps in alleviating blood sugar levels.

2: GRIND SEEDS: The grind seeds of about 2 spoonful’s taken twice a day with water or milk at meal times prove in reducing the blood sugar level.

3: LEMON: The intake juice of one big lemon, taken twice a day just after your meal also helps in reducing blood sugar levels.

4: GOOSEBERRY: The consumption of 4 to 5 fruits a day or one teaspoonful of gooseberry dried powder in half glass of water taken daily is also found to be effective.

5: FIG TREE: The water boiled with barks or roots extract of fig tree may be used for drinking purposes helps in reducing the blood sugar level.

6: LOTUS PLANT: The young leaves of lotus plants that are popularly used or the dried powder of the young leaves of lotus above the water surface which is used as tea are also useful for diabetes.

7: GARLIC: Garlic helps in regulating the blood sugar level and increase the amount of insulin in our body. The best way too consumed garlic is by crushing two medium-size pods and eat this paste on an empty stomach, you can swallow it with a glass of water if you find it very pungent.

8: BLACKBERRIES: Blackberry or popularly known as black plum serve as welcoming foods for patients with high blood sugar level. But these fruits being seasonal it is not very common among the people, the intake of these fruits helps in improving the health conditions for a sugar disorders patients.  A teaspoonful of berry seed powder a day helps to keep the sugar under control.

9: SOYBEAN: Soy being a healthy, low- fat or protein, and cholesterol-free helps to control the patients to lower their bad cholesterol. People with diabetes are at high risk of heart and kidney diseases and so the intake of soy foods helps to protect the kidney and heart.

10: NEEM LEAVES: Consumption of 4 to 5 leaves of neem early in the morning with an empty stomach is very much helpful in controlling diabetes.

14: LADY FINGER: Lady’s finger is a simple tip to control diabetes. Take two to three ladyfinger, cut them from the center n soaked it overnight in a glass full of water, drink the soaked water in the morning before breakfast these will help to reduce the blood sugar level, continue these processes every day to keep yourself healthy.
